Fanlistings: Music - Other
Alan Parsons Project
Progressive rock band specialising in concept albums with great music and lyrics.
Capercaillie
Wonderful mixture of traditional Scottish and contemporary influences. They'll always be associated with my time on Iona, where I first heard their music (we sold and played it in the Abbey shop). Also wonderful live.
Clannad
I first heard Clannad in the late 80s - my brother was a fan, and I also got to listening to their music. They have both the ethereal quality that Enya takes into her music, and a more gutsy, rooted sound that I associate with Capercaillie.
Enya
A favourite ever since she released Watermark - my brother (again!) had it playing in the car when we drove up to Scotland for a sailing holiday (Orinoco Flow always makes me think of that now). I love her other albums too.
Loreena McKennitt
Although I didn't discover her until a few years ago (through 'Dante's Prayer'), she has become possibly my favourite artist of all. The songs are magical and mystical, the voice and instrumentation beautiful.
Nightwish
I discovered Nightwish relatively recently, but immediately fell in love with their powerful and melodic brand of symphonic metal. I enjoy all five of the albums they released with Tarja Turunen as lead vocalist as well as some of their recent work.
Noa
A friend introduced me to her music with the track 'Long Coat in Winter', still my favourite. She sings beautifully, and with such emotion. I also admire her support for Arab-Jewish partnership in Israel.
War of the Worlds - Jeff Wayne
A wonderful musical adaptation of H.G. Well's story, and a favourite ever since I heard it as a child. I also recently saw the terrific live show.
