Science Fiction Films
The science fiction genre encompasses special effects blockbusters, entertaining adventure, and thoughtful political and social comment. Includes many of my favourite films, though top of the list remains the classic 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Fantasy Films
The magic and imaginative adventure of fantasy films made this a favourite genre from early on. Early favourites were The Neverending Story and The Dark Crystal, later favourites include The Lord of the Rings.
Disney Animated Films
Fantasia may be the first film I ever saw, and is certainly one of my earliest memories. As a child I came to love many of the Disney stories through cinema outings, Disney story books and LPs of the stories and songs. They remain favourites for their nostalgic value as well as for the beautifully crafted animation.
Alfred Hitchcock
Hitchcock is the master of suspense and visual storytelling, intriguing plots and memorable images. His legacy continues to inspire film-makers today.
Miyazaki Hayao
Creator of beautiful anime films, with recurring themes of the power of goodness, and concern for right relationship with the environment
