Fanlistings: Films K-P
Tristan - King Arthur
One of the good things to come out of the King Arthur movie. My favourite of the knights, as I think I identify with the character of the silent watcher. He is also the most graceful and beautiful to watch.
Laputa, Castle in the Sky
Magical anime film from Miyazaki Hayao, a sci-fi adventure with echoes of Jules Verne, and signature Miyazaki themes.
Chingachgook, Hawkeye and Uncas / Uncas - Last of the Mohicans
The relationship between Chingachgook, Hawkeye and Uncas is at the heart of the story; bridging two cultures and living in harmony with the land, in contrast to the violent imperialism of the whites and the warlike Huron. Uncas is my favourite character in the story - a skilled warrior of his tribe he has a quiet yet strong presence, showing also great gentleness and devotion.
The Lord of the Rings
Beautifully crafted adaptatons of the books, with stunning sets and scenery bringin Middle-earth to the screen. The books will always hold first place, but despite the changes and omissions that have come from translating them to film, the films (in the extended editions) have also become firm favourites.
Mulholland Drive
A complex and intriguing psychological thriller that stays in the mind long after the credits, leaving the viewer to interpret its meaing and revealing different facets on each viewing.
The Mummy / The Mummy Returns
Action/adventure and the magic of ancient Egypt. These are both great fun, and the second possibly even better than the first. I love the way the characters are developed between the two films.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
My introducation to Miyazaki, this beautiful film remains my favourite of his works with its strong heroine, and intelligent plot - a well-told sci-fi story with a profound ecological message.
The Neverending Story
I saw this magical fantasy in the cinema aged 7, and watched it so many times I soon lost count. It even inspired me to write fanfic (thankfully long lost), and later became the first video I owned. I still want a luck dragon...
101 Dalmations
Endearing canine adventure, with plenty of action and comedy. An early Disney favourite.
Pirates of the Caribbean
A great action / adventure film, and pure entertainment. Not to mention that Johnny Depp is absolutely terrific as Captain Sparrow. One of my favourite films to watch when I just need to chill out and have fun.
