Fanlistings: Art
Pauline Baynes
Illustrator of the Narnia books, as well as some of Tolkien's work. Her illustrations were an integral part of my experience of the Narnia books as a child. I loved them, and had hours of fun colouring in copies :)
Caspar David Friedrich
I love his romantic landscapes, gothic imagery, and the sense his work conveys of the spiritual in nature. One of my favourite paintings of all is his 'Winter Landscape'.
Georgia O'Keeffe
My teacher introduced me to Georgia O'Keeffe's art when I was studing art GCSE, and I fell in love with the colours and swirling natural forms of her compositions.
Pre-Raphelites
I love Pre-Raphelite art for its engagement with myths and legends, the age of chivalry, Shakespeare. J.W. Waterhouse is my favourite, but I also particularly enjoy Edmund Blair Leighton and Edward Burne-Jones.
Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Renoir's figures often seem to possess an inner radiance. His art captures the beauty in the scenes he observes, and the emotion - for example the loneliness of the girl in black in The Umbrellas.
Joseph Mallord William Turner
When I lived in London I often sought out his work at the National and Tate Galleries. He is one of the great British landscape painters, and the light and atmosphere in his work is breathtaking.
