Sean Connery

One of the great screen presences. I like his James Bond, but I'm most a fan of his later films, especially The Hunt for Red October and The Rock.

Johnny Depp

Magnetic on screen, and able to bring depth to any character, and he's particularly great at intense, often slightly quirky roles - Edward Scissorhands, Ichabod Crane (Sleepy Hollow), Agent Sands (Once Upon a Time in Mexico).

Ian McKellen

For my 21st birthday treat, I saw Ian McKellen in Ibsen's Enemy of the People at the National Theatre. Wonderful on both stage and screen, and I also admire his advocacy of gay rights in recent years.

Laurence Olivier

One of the all-time greats. His Hamlet was probably the most influential portrayal of that character for me (my favourite play), and I also love the dark and brooding intensity in Rebecca and other films.

Hugo Weaving

I've sought out his films since seeing him in Lord of the Rings. An excellent and versatile actor; I admire his willingness to take on less conventional roles (eg Tick in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert). And he's into animal rights too :)

Elijah Wood

I'm a fan of Elijah primarily for his portrayal of Frodo in Lord of the Rings, always one of my favourite characters. I was impressed by the talent shown in earlier films too, like The Ice Storm and Deep Impact.
