Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands
The Farne Islands are a group of islands off the coast of Northumberland. They are home to numerous seabirds, including puffins, and also home to colonies of grey seals. The lighthouse on Longstone Island is also known as the home of Grace Darling, a Victorian heroine who saved 9 survivors of a shipwreck in 1838. North of the Farne Islands is Lindisfarne, or Holy Island, the site of a 7th century monastery, founded by St Aidan and settled by monks from Iona. There is also a 16th century castle.
