About the Site
The idea for this site came when I decided that I wanted a place to put fanlistings that weren't related to my Lord of the Rings sites. It grew from there, but being someone who is rather shy and has a more-than-heathly allowance of self-criticism, deciding exactly how to make a site about me was sometimes challenging...
Title
'Unattended Moments' is taken from a passage in The Dry Salvages by T.S. Eliot (part of Four Quartets). Eliot is talking about the perception of the eternal within our lives:
For most of us, there is only the unattended
Moment, the moment in and out of time,
The distraction fit, lost in a shaft of sunlight,
The wild thyme unseen, or the winter lightning
Or the waterfall, or music heard so deeply
That it is not heard at all, but you are the music
While the music lasts.
This has always been one of my favourite passages, as it is within the moments of beauty in 'ordinary' life - listening to music, admiring the beauty of nature, daydreaming - that I find most significance.
Layout
This was my first attempt at a collage-style layout. The cat is another photo of my Bubbles, all other images (book, paper, rose petals etc) come from stock.xchng. The theme of roses was suggested by other references in Four Quartets, especially the first part of Burnt Norton:
Footfalls echo in the memory
Down the passage which we did not take
Towards the door we never opened
Into the rose-garden. My words echo
Thus, in your mind.
But to what purpose
Disturbing the dust on a bowl of rose-leaves
I do not know.
